Now that the New Year’s celebrations and the first week of 2015 are behind us, it is time to start checking into the exciting and fun local events coming up in 2015.
One of the main events scheduled for January is the seventh annual Cayman Cookout which takes place over four days, January 15ththrough January 18th. The event, which is hosted by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism in conjunction with The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and Food and Wine Magazine, will feature culinary demonstrations, wine and Champagne tastings and presentations by exceptionally talented chefs including Eric Ripert, Jose Andres, Daniel Boulud, Anthony Bourdain, Sean Brock, Lynn Crawford, Sven Elverfeld, Norman Love, Marcus Samuelson and Michael White amongst others. A plethora of events are planned that are sure to appeal to everyone whether you are a dedicated foodie, wine connoisseur or just an average Joe. The Cayman Islands Mercuryman Triathlon also takes place in January on the 18th at The Reef Resort in East End. It is open to individual athletes and teams 18 years and older who wish to compete in either the half iron distance triathlon length event, consisting of a 1.5 mile (1.9km) swim, 56 mile (90km) bike ride and a 13.1 mile (21.1km) run, or the aquabike event, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim and 56 mile bike ride. This year, professional triathletes Lisa Roberts, Emily Cocks, Kim Schwabenbauer, Charisa Wernick and Jennifer Lentzke will participate in the event.
