Designs on Architecture for Young Caymanian
Young Caymanian, Rita Ebanks, is realizing her dream thanks to a Government scholarship and co-sponsorship from Evolving Island and Steppingstones Recruitment Ltd.
Rita left Cayman in January 2010 to travel New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island, to start her Bachelor’s in Architectural Building, Engineering and Technology. Rita spent 2009 working with Kariba learning all about Architecture and Design from experts in the industry.
“It’s been a dream of mine for so long I can’t remember when I first decided that I wanted to be an Architect”, said Rita. “I studied Technical Drawing at George Hicks High School and loved it. When I went to John Gray High I was able to study Technical Drawing at a more advanced level over two years and, in addition, took a Building Construction course. I knew then what my goal was and l went on to study Construction Technology at UCCI.”
Rita gained the highest GPA in her class, graduating last July, and began working as a summer student with Kariba. “They offered me a great opportunity to gain real experience in the industry and have involved me in a range of projects which has brought my study to life.” said Rita.
“We were very impressed with Rita, who initially came in to our offices seeking summer work”, said Kariba’s Director. “She was an excellent student so we were keen to continue working with her. She showed an eagerness to learn and demonstrated a dedication to developing her skills and knowledge which is highly commendable in such a young person.”
Rita has now successfully completed her first year and has achieved excellent grades. “We are only too pleased to support Rita. She is an outstanding young Caymanian with great potential and we are delighted that she is taking this opportunity to make her dreams a success.”
