Food
Most items are generally available. There are four large supermarkets plus several smaller ones which are similar to British and US stores. Prices are in CI$.
Some food items are sourced on island including eggs, chicken, beef, and fish plus a limited range of local fruits and vegetables. Local specialties such as conch is also available from selected grocers. However, due to the demand of a thriving tourism industry and a growing population most food items are imported.
The large supermarkets carry a wide variety of international and specialty foods to satisfy most palates. Supermarkets with in-house bakery, deli and pharmacy sections include Foster’s Food Fair with locations across the island; Kirk Supermarket & Pharmacy in George Town, and Hurley’s in Red Bay.
A 10 minute drive from George Town, you will find The Grounds in Lower Valley, Bodden Town – a 30-acre complex offering everything locally grown and made in the Islands every Saturday morning. There is also the Farmer’s Market located by the Cricket pitch with local stalls, and Camana Bay hosts a weekly Farmer’s Market every Wednesday between 10am – 4pm.
